Samsung seems to be in a bit of hurry. I am saying this because it’s hardly few weeks when Galaxy S5 was launched & the company is back with another product. Yes, Samsung just unveiled another gadget from its unending repertoire.
This is neither a smartphone nor a camera but a hybrid of both. Though little big, bulky in size, Galaxy K zoom is another attempt by the company to blur the line between a camera & smartphone after its first attempt with Galaxy S4 zoom.
Galaxy K zoom is a camera that can be used as phone as well & guys, it’s powerful. The camera phone packs a 20.7 MP BSI CMOS sensor which means business. That sounds incredible but that’s not it. It also packs a 10x optical zoom lens which is equipped with Optical Image Stabilization so no more blurry images when on the move. The main camera is capable of recording Full HD videos. There is a powerful Xenon flash to deliver better performance when it’s dark which provide better light than normal LED’s. The main camera also packs some advanced features like ‘Auto Focus & Auto Exposure Separation’. There is a ‘Slefie Alarm’ feature that helps you to take quick selfies on timed basis. Then there is 2 MP camera at the front which seems paltry compared to the rear one.
The front is very much like any Samsung smartphone that we see around. Galaxy K zoom packs 4.8 inch screen with Super AMOLED HD display of 720x1280p resolution. A quad core 1.3 GHz & a dual core 1.7 GHz combined processors power this camera phone. It comes with 2 GB RAM & 8 GB of internal memory which is expandable up to 64 GB. The device comes equipped with NFC, Bluetooth & other connectivity features like a smartphone only. It is backed a rather modest 2,430 mAh battery. Galaxy K zoom is launched with Android v4.4 (KitKat).
It is packed with many new features be it the ‘Pro Suggest Mode’ or ‘Selfie Alarm’. Although it looks bit bulky but then it’s not your average smartphone. Packed with 20.7 MP camera with optical zoom is a feat Samsung has achieved quite remarkably with Galaxy K zoom. It can be connected through internet like its predecessor giving the user instant sharing options on social sites.

It comes preloaded with all the typical Samsung apps (bloatware instead) & is announced in blue, black & white versions’. It is launched in Singapore & will soon be available in all the leading markets for sale. There is a demand for such smartphones which can double as a camera as well when needed. Now how it performs depends a lot on its pricing which unfortunately the company didn’t disclose. As per the features, it seems a sure shot winner unless Samsung puts some nasty price tag with this chubby device. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 30,000 but that’s just a possibility so take it with a pinch of salt unless Samsung thinks otherwise.
Yes it’s bulky, big for a smartphone & won’t fit easily in everyone’s pocket but didn’t I say it’s a camera first!
